Overall, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander prisoners were younger than non-Indigenous prisoners, which follows the same profile from previous years.

At 30 June 2018:

    • The median age of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander prisoners was 32 years, whilst for non-Indigenous prisoners it was 36 years. (Table 1)
    • Prisoners aged under 40 years accounted for 76% of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander prisoner population, compared with 63% of the non-Indigenous prisoner population. (Table 21)
